The Money Pit

What is it with casino’s? I really don’t get it. I went to one for the first time as an of-age gambler today and was bored out of my mind. Garish kept coming to mind, and I just couldn’t get excited about throwing my money away.

I’m guessing part of my aversion to casino’s–and gambling in general—has to do with the fact that I play a lot of video games, where skill is pretty much always more important than luck. What’s so exciting about sticking a dollar into a machine, pressing a button, and finding out you just lost your dollar for three-seconds of suspense? Games of chance where the house always has the upper hand are boring. Games of skill, however… that’s something different. If they built a casino that featured, say, arcade games, and skilled players could “beat the house”, that might be interesting. The entire time I was there I couldn’t help but think of what a waste it all seemed.

Anyways, I doubt I’ll be going again anytime soon. Maybe if I had a couple hundred dollars in disposable income and really couldn’t think of anything better to do with it.
