Battlestar Galactica

I’m not sure why I’ve never posted about the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. I’ve been following since the mini-series way back in 2003, and it’s still one of the best shows on television (not that it has much competition). The decision to end the series this season is a little dissapointing, but only because the show is still so good. There’s no telling how long they could keep this level of quality going, and so far nothing feals truncated or stretched a little too thin.

Is there anything to replace it? I almost always have a television on nearby, but I’m rarely actually watching anything on it. I can count the number of shows I follow regularly on one hand. My Name is Earl was good, but I haven’t seen it in forever and it wasn’t so interesting that I’m dying to see it again. The Office falls into the same category. Scrubs is generally good, but I don’t follow it. I’ve lost interest in Stargate. I can’t stand most reality-television.

Lost has been so overhyped I don’t know if I’ll ever watch it, regardless of how good it might actually be. I’ve never been particularly interested in Smallville. I wanted to get into Heroes, but it sounds like I’m better off having missed out on that one. Liliy has gotten’ me interested in CSI, but I only catch it here and there. Law & Order is a fav, but I only like the classic series and I think I’ve seen all of them. House was good, but every episode is pretty much the same and I can only take so much of a know-it-all asshole. I had high hopes for the new Flash Gordon, but that lasted less than one episode.

What does everyone else watch? BSG won’t really finish until sometime near the end of this year, but once it’s gone about the only thing left that I’ll be keeping up with is The Colbert Report.

Liberal Media Bias? No Way!

By way of Brad Wardell over at JoeUser.com I discovered a very interesting article by Orson Scott Card on liberal media bias. I highly recommend checking it out, and must say that I must agree with Mr. Card and others about liberal media bias. It’s incredible.

Take, for instance, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Yes, it is a fake news show, but they still report on real news. And no, it’s not their job to present a balanced, unbiased report; their job is to make people laugh. The problem is, a lot of people get their news from The Daily Show. I used to get my news from the daily show (apart from the various blogs I read).

The Daily Show is a great example of media bias not because it’s some major, well respected media outlet. It’s a great example because it’s a caricature of actual news outlets, complete with overreaching, inflated liberal bias. Yeah, every now and then they’ll take a light stab at Kerry, but it’s always balanced out with at least one story about Bush and his team which inevitably comes down harder on the administration than they could ever muster to do to Kerry.

Seriously: how can people really take networks like CNN seriously when they’ve admitted to bending over for the likes of Saddam Hussein? It’s just incredible. I don’t mind biased news reports; they’re called editorials. When major news outlets try to pass off editorials as actual, unbiased, just-stating-the-facts news (common fair these days), though, it becomes insulting. I’ll stick to JoeUser and USS Clueless for my editorial news, thanks.

VH1

How the hell did VH1 get so awesome? I mean seriously, I Love the…, Best Week Ever, 100 Most Metal Moments, 50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs Ever. These shows are hilarious!

Of course, it probably doesn’t hurt that their only competition is MTV, the broadcast-equivelant of spam, pop-ups, and every other annoying advertising trick known to man.
