Macbook Pro = Love

15″ Macbook Pro with 4GB of RAM, 500GB HDD, 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, nVidia GeForce 9400M, SD Slot, Super Drive, Multi-Touch Trackpad, Total Awesome. Also a Time Capsule so I can live my dream of surfing the Internet from bed.

It should go without saying that I’m in love with the thing, so I won’t go on about it too much here. Instead, I’ll mention the few minor annoying things I’ve run into:

  • The multi-touch gestures don’t always work the way they feel like they should. Three-finger swipes, for example, navigate back and forth through Finder and Safari windows and can be used to flip through photos in iPhoto, but can’t be used at all in open/save dialogs and don’t change tracks in iTunes (which seemed so obvious to me I was genuinely shocked when it not only didn’t work but produced an iTunes Store error, of all things).
  • Speaking of multi-touch gestures, I wouldn’t mind a few more. This is less of annoyance and more of a realization that I absolutely love multitouch interaction on the Macbook Pro. Apparently the only limitation here is software updates, so hopefully a future patch will add more gesture options.
  • Chess refuses to accept voice commands for some reason. It’s also horribly, horribly ugly unlike the rest of the Mac. I don’t play chess that much anyway but it is apparently the only game included with OS X… they could’ve, I don’t know, made it look a little nicer.
  • The audio quality is excellent, but not quite what I’m used to coming from a PC desktop with 2.1 stereo sound. This could easily be fixed by plugging my PC speakers into the Macbook, of course.
  • I’ve had a few programs freeze up for no apparent reason, resulting in the need to force-quit. Nothing huge, but it’s a little annoying not knowing what caused the freezing.
