Rain Slick Gaming

If you’re at all a fan of Penny-Arcade you couldn’t have missed the launch of On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darknes: Episode 1 (Episode 1 from here on out) last month. I’ve been meaning to post about it for awhile now but things have been surprisingly hectic and I’m just now starting to catch up with all the things I’d intended to do this summer.

If you are at all a fan of Penny-Arcade, you owe it to yourself to check out Episode 1. It takes everything that makes the comic spectacular and turns it into an interactive adventure with your own custom character as the nominal star. Even if you’re not, the game is a solid action/adventure/role-playing game that provides plenty of fun and laughs. It probably does help if you’re at least passingly familiar with Penny-Arcade.

Either way, Episode 1 is a solid opening to what looks like it will be an excellent series of games. This first installment can be a little repetitive, with a limited number of environments and goals that mostly revolve around killing, but the humor more than makes up for it. It does make it hard to recommend to non-fans, however. A lot of the enjoyment here is seeing Gabe, Tycho, and other favorites from the comic doing with they do best. If you aren’t a fan, you may not be too happy with the repetitiveness and length.
