The New PS2 is Slicker than Ever

I finally picked up my check the other day (no, that’s not the really bad thing that happened), and ended up spending over half of it on a new PS2. Best Buy had three of the new models in, the ones I was looking for, so I picked one up. Also got Best Buy’s two year replacement warranty; normally I’d skip it, but considering what happened to the first PS2, there’s no harm done if it doesn’t screw up. If it does, I’m backed up.

So, what about? This thing is slick. Incredibly slick. Unbelievably slick. It’s tiny compared to the PS2, and minuscule compared to an X-Box. The thing is just awesome, knowing they packed all that stuff (two controller ports, two memory card ports, two USB ports, a modem and cable network out, IR receiver, and all the other innards of the system) into such a small, bad-ass looking machine. I’ve got small books that weigh more than this thing. It’s just, just… awesome.

Another thing to note is the CD loader; unlike the original model (and much more like the original Playstation) it’s a flip-top setup, which I tend to prefer.Don’t ask me why, I just do for some reason.

The only draw backs to the new model that I can think of are the fact that it’s incompatible with the earlier multi-tap (a new one will be, or already has been, released) and that it very unceremoniously kills of the HDD. I won’t be missing it, of course, but for all the hoopla Sony made over the thing, you’d think they wouldn’t have just said “fuck it” and killed it off with a whole new system design.

Anyways, if you don’t have a PS2 or are in need of a new one, I highly recommend getting one of the new models.
